New Lanark History
New Lanark is a village on the River Clyde near Lanark, South Lanarkshire. The mills were founded in 1786 by David Dale, Dale sold the mills in the 19th Century to a Robert Owen for £60,000 which was repayable over 20 years. In Owen's time at the mills some 2,500 people lived at New Lanark, many from the poor houses of Edinburgh and Glasgow.
In 1825 the mills passed to the Walker family, who managed the village until 1881 before it was sold to Birkmyre and Sommerville. They controlled the village and mills until 1968 when it closed.
Once the mills closed people started to move away from the village and the buildings started to deteriorate. In 1963 the New Lanark Association was formed, they began the restoration of some areas of the village. In 1974 the New Lanark Conservation Trust was set up and by 2005 the village was completely restored and is now a popular visitor attraction.
Paranormal Activity
New Lanark has been dubbed one of the most haunted buildings in the area. In the Millworkers House a gentleman called Arthur is said to reside, his voice been clearly caught on dictaphone on past investigations. In Robert Owen's House the sound of crockery being moved has been heard and an apparition of a small girl has been seen.
Also in Robert Owen's house previous investigators have been told to 'get out'....maybe Robert trying to protect his house. This is said to be a highly active location, join us and find out!
Event Includes
Overnight access, cold supper buffet, tea and coffee served throughout the night, demonstration and use of paranormal equipment, ghost walk with our residen medium, psychic workshop, experienced paranormal investigators, late night vigils and paranormal experiments and post event discussions.
